Background and Experience
EDUCATION AND INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE
Dr. Russell received her Master's Degree (1993) and Doctorate Degree (1997) from Louisiana State Univeristy, in Clinical Psychology, with a focus on child development. She completed an APA accredited clinical internship at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, which included training at community mental health centers, TEACCH centers, the Center for Development and Learning, Wake Memorial Medical Center high risk infant clinic, and Kaiser Permanente HMO.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Dr. Russell has worked in a varitey of settings. At the Developmental Evaluation Center in Durham, she was part of a multi-disciplinary team that provided evaluations for children birth to five. At the Behavioral Health Center (CMC Randolph), she provided both evaluations and treatment for children and families, including general parenting classes and classes for parents of children with ADHD. In addition, she worked in the Exceptional Children's Program at the Community School of Davidson from 2003, to 2014 where she conducted testing and led biofeedback groups and Love and Logic classes.
TRAINING AND MEMBERSHIPS
Dr. Russell has been in private practice since 2002, and has continued to attend workshops and training in the areas of OCD, Anxiety, ADHD and Executive Functioning, Anxiety, and Body Focused Repetitive Behaviors. She is a member of the Mecklenburg Psychological Association, the Obsessive Compulsive Foundation, The Trich Learning Center Foundation for Body Focused Repetitive Behaviors, and Zfive of Mecklenburg County. Dr. Russell recently attended a Professional Training Institute for BRFBs (Hair Pulling and Skin Picking) and uses the ComB model in her treatment approach. She has trained in ACT and uses mindfulness in her work. She collaborates with other professionals and assists clients and families connect with appropriate services.
